This is the 1987/88/89 (I’ve seen it labeled all three) Twin Turbo Mustang Prototype built by Roush for the 25th Anniversary of the Mustang.
As said by Mark Kovalsky, for a post on TheMustangSource :
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
It is funny that he says they tried all of SVO’s chassis stiffeners, but I see no strut tower bar, which I’d imagine were easy to get a hold of even then . I have a hunch it doesn’t have subframe connectors either, which are one of the first mods that should be done to any F oxbody. Maybe I’ll see if I can look at it at Roush’s next open house.
Here’s an article from Motor Trend in 1991.
I have seen it in person, and it’s a very neat car. I’d love to know what driving it is like.
(Getting those bottom two pictures off of my instagram absolutely sucked. Why is it so fucking hard?!)

Did Ford ever put the horsey logo on the Fox body Mustangs? Because that’s the only one I can recall seeing

I can’t speak for the 79-86 cars, but from ‘87-February of ‘89 (when my grandfather’s was built) the only place they had it was the under hood liner. Then in March of ‘89 they put a 25 years version of the logo on the dash, and in 1990, it became permanent, minus the 25 years on the bottom of it. The 5 spoke wheels introduced in 1990 also had the Pony on the center caps, which is why they’re known as the Pony wheels.

This is the letter I received at our dealership in 1988.

Great story. Makes me long to work in the car industry. Or to have been working there in the 90s. In Japan.
Sadly it will never come to pass.

79-82 had a horse on the hood emblem:
But I don’t remem ber seeing a horse emblem on the ‘84 or the ‘86 Mustang I used to own.

Well, it’s dumb. They’re my own photos for gods’ sake. (The phone they were on is long gone and I forgot to back them up)

I’d love to have another Foxbody. I have yet to find another car that is as fun on the street while still being extremely useful.
But that chassis is very floppy.

Ah, okay! I admit my knowledge on the earlier cars is very limited.

super cool - I had no idea this was ever a thing. Didn’t they have issues with the T-5 even with stock GT 302s? Late 80's live axle mustang with turbos that probably hit like a horse kick had to be one heck of a ride. Mid corner... turbo hits... and around we go again!

No worries! I’ve owned 3 of the 4-eyed Foxes, and I like the look of those better than the later models, so I might have studied them a bit more than most people .

Oh, I know. But I still don’t believe that it was unsolvable. There’s too many higher powered Foxes out there to believe it.

They did, yes. The later World Class T-5 introduced in ‘85 was a bit better but even those can be fragile. My grandfather blew his up, had it rebuilt with a strengthened (and different ratio) first and second gear and it’s held fine since, but then I’ve never powershifted it and I doubt he has either.

They’re very cool! I am partial to the Aeronose cars, but I fully admit that’s bias due to my grandfather’s. I wouldn’t mind having a nice 4 eye though.

I find Instagram to be very user-UNfriendly. Not just because of the aforementioned image downloading hurdles, but also because the platform is downright atrocious for video sharing. Embedded videos will only play once, after which you’re forced to either reload the page, or click through to the Insta page. But what really grinds my gears is that the lack of a simple video progress bar. I never know if a video is going to be 5 seconds, or 50 seconds. No ability to rewind, fast forward, or skip; just play/pause. It’s just plain garbage. I’m genuinely surprised that it’s as popular as it is.

Fascinating car. I too would like to see what they used for chassis stiffening.

It’s in the Roush Collection. They usually have open houses every time NASCAR is racing at Flat Rock. I’ll probably try to peek under it next time I go.

Im sure it’s s olvable, but maybe not with easily sourced factory parts in the late 80s.
I’d consider a full or partial cage for this beast, and not just for the stiffening.
